Instant Car Rental – Zanzibar
Effective Date: 1 September 2026

These Terms and Conditions (“Agreement”) govern the rental of vehicles by Instant Car Rental (“Company”, “we”, “our”, or “us”), a vehicle hire provider based in Zanzibar, to any individual or corporate entity (“Renter”, “you”, or “your”).

By signing the rental agreement or using our services, you agree to comply with all terms set out below.

1. Eligibility & Driver Requirements

  • All drivers must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 2 years driving experience.
  • International clients must provide a valid international driving permit in addition to their national license from the country of origin.
  • Only the individuals listed in the rental agreement are authorised to drive the vehicle.

2. Booking & Rental Period

  • The rental period starts and ends as per the dates and times listed in the rental agreement.
  • Requests to extend the rental period must be made at least 24 hours before the return time and are subject to availability.
  • Late returns beyond the grace period (1 hour) may incur additional daily charges.

3. Vehicle Usage

The vehicle must not be used for:

  • Illegal or unlawful activities.
  • Transporting passengers or goods for hire or reward (unless with prior written approval).
  • Racing, off-roading, or towing other vehicles.
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that may impair driving.

Renter agrees to use the vehicle responsibly and return it in the condition it was received, excluding normal wear and tear.

4. Fuel Policy

  • Vehicles are provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with the same level.
  • Refueling charges will apply for any shortfall, plus a service fee.

5. Insurance & Liability

  • All vehicles are covered by basic third-party insurance.
  • The renter is responsible for any damages, theft, or accidents not covered by insurance, including tires, windscreens, mirrors, or undercarriage damage and driving on unauthorized or rough terrain.
  • A security deposit may be required and will be refunded after the vehicle has been inspected.

Note: Additional insurance (comprehensive coverage or CDW – Collision Damage Waiver) may be purchased.

6. Breakdowns & Accidents

  • In case of an accident or mechanical issue, contact Instant Car Rental immediately via the emergency number provided.
  • A police report is mandatory for any incident involving damage or third parties.
  • Do not abandon the vehicle without authorization.

7. Payments & Cancellation

  • Payment must be made in full before the start of the rental period.
  • Acceptable methods: Cash, Card, Mobile Money (M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Tigo Pesa), Bank Transfer.
  • Cancellations: 48+ hours before pickup — full refund; 24–48 hours — 50% refund; less than 24 hours or no-show — no refund.

8. Delivery & Pick-Up

  • Delivery and pick-up within Zanzibar (Stone Town or Airport) are available upon request and may be subject to additional fees.
  • Vehicles must be returned at the agreed time and location. Failure to do so may result in penalties.

9. Traffic Violations, Speeding & Fines

  • The renter is fully responsible for any traffic violations, parking tickets, speeding fines, or other penalties incurred during the rental period.
  • Instant Car Rental reserves the right to charge the renter for any fines or penalties received after the rental period, including an administrative fee for processing such fines.
  • The renter must obey all local traffic laws and posted speed limits.
  • Any reckless driving or repeated violations may result in termination of the rental agreement without refund and possible legal action.

10. Governing Law

This Agreement shall be governed and interpreted in accordance with the laws of Zanzibar/Tanzania. Any disputes shall be handled by competent local courts.
